Hoʻolohe me ke aloha
You’re welcome here. Take a look around. You can browse the music by album or by song, or go backstage to check out song notes, lyrics, credits, reviews or blog posts.
If you like something you see or hear, please consider sharing it.
Want to know a bit more about me? Read Retirement Career—or Calling? Lots of detail and photos there. And lots of other details sprinkled here and there throughout song notes. Now that I’m not in the spotlight, I don’t get a chance to talk much, so I tend to be a long-winded writer. Why not get a cup of tea and relax…?
About the Logo

When I recently changed the name of this site, I had to retire the old Creative Measures logo in favor of a new one. I decided to just create one out of simple musical symbols.
It’s just a musical staff, with the opening bracket and final double bar creating an “H,” with the help of an emboldened middle staff line. Can you see it? And against that backdrop—which is symbolic to me of my ancestry, my history, my environment, my frame of reference—is set a single note, a “D.” I’m assuming a bass clef of course, which is my native singing clef.
The simple, single note to me represents God’s “whispering my name,” and the music he put within me. As Robert Benson puts it in Between the Dreaming and the Coming True, the Dreamer spoke us into being because he has a dream for us. That dream won’t come true—no one will become that name God whispered into existence, no one will become Doug, or Jan, or Chele, or David—unless we hear that word, and be that word. To put it in the simplest terms, the reason we were sent into this world is to be the one God sent into this world. Too easily we get lost in all the things we think we should be, and what others tell us our life should look like. Finding our way back to the person we were meant to be is no more—and no less—than finding our way back to the Dreamer.
It’s my hope and prayer that you might hear something in the music the Dreamer put within me that will help you find—and live to the fullest—the dream that is you.
